Parque Nacional Shenandoah \ Shenandoah National Park

Parque Nacional Shenandoah

2014-01-10

Shenandoah National Park

2014-01-10

Making use of the name of my blog , I have decided to share routes and pictures of my travels and adventures, which will eventually be saved to the “Closet of My Memories ”
This time, I share the Shenandoah National Park, located in the mountains of Virginia. This is one of the great parks that this country has.

It has more than 200,000 acres, among which beautiful mountains covered with great vegetation in autumn time, gives us a wonderful view.

Also you can find waterfalls and a lot of ground for rock climbing, and clear paths for those who love to walk among nature. Up in the top of the mountains, the air is pure, the view is breathtaking, and the park offers amenities such as a place to eat, or refuel and to a hotel which can make your vacation a memorable time.
Not only can you go hiking to Shenandoah, there is also availability of horses and camping ground. As you go higher and higher in your car , you may realize that you may have a little of problem with a lack of air, because altitude, so it is recommended to go up slowly and stop at scenery views locations for vehicles,  and from there to observe the panoramic view that will take your breath away.
Well, I will say that the journey cannot be too short, because this is a distant place to reach, even if you live in the state of Virginia. First you have to reach a city to stay, in my case it was Luray, there you will find reasonably prices for accommodations. The town is small but has everything you would need for a “vacation stay”.
The park is very large and there is a concrete road that crosses from side to side. This ride is rather quite long, so I recommend you to check up the map and the entrances before you go.

We picked the entrance near the city of Luray, leaving us somehow in the middle of this road, from there; you have the option to go north or south. If you go south, you will find the visitor center of the park, almost on top of those mountains, with stunning views.
And do not forget to stop by the restaurant and eat something delicious, and don’t forget to stop at the souvenir shop , they sell ” blackberry syrup “,  you must buy either one or a few , and then use it at home when you make pancakes. This syrup is delicious!

Hi Bev, it was in October, and we were on vacation, but not at the park. We stayed in Luray. It was amazing and it is a place to go back, definitively, but we did cover most of the “road trip”, meaning from south to north by car, it took us about 5 hours with small stops. You can easily spend a week doing sections, there too much hiking to do, falls to see and so many other activities to do. Maybe next time.
